New York-based startup Pangram has secured $9 million in fresh funding as demand grows for tools that can distinguish human writing from AI-generated text. The round was led by Menlo Ventures, with participation from Haystack, ScOp, Script Capital, and Cadenza.

Alongside the investment, the company introduced two new products: Pangram 4, its latest text detection model, and Pangram Image, a system designed to identify AI-generated visuals. Pangram says its new text model can detect AI-assisted and mixed human-AI writing with more than 99% accuracy, including content polished by "humanizer" tools.

Founded by Stanford-trained AI and machine learning graduates Max Spero and Bradley Emi, Pangram was built to help platforms, publishers, schools, and other organizations better understand how content is created. The company's approach relies on large-scale machine learning trained on millions of human documents, then compared against synthetic versions generated by frontier language models.

The startup also offers access through a browser extension, web subscription, and API. Its technology is already being used in workflows that label content in real time and measure the balance between human and AI-generated material. Pangram says its image detector works at the pixel level, aiming to spot AI visuals even when they appear inside real-world photos.

As AI-generated content becomes more common across publishing and digital platforms, detection tools are becoming part of the broader infrastructure of online trust. In the years ahead, systems like Pangram could help define a clearer standard for transparency in the digital content ecosystem.
