Google is inviting more businesses and developers to connect their services with its AI experiences through a new Connected Apps Platform. The platform is designed to make third-party apps available within Google Search, the Gemini app, or both.
Once connected, users can ask Google's AI tools to carry out tasks with those services--for example, creating a design with Canva or making a playlist with YouTube Music. Developers can build integrations using MCP servers or Android's AppFunctions APIs, then register, test, and submit them through Google's Connected Console.
The platform also gives developers tools to monitor traffic, response times, and errors, while managing verified branding and accounts. Google says the preview is open to U.S. developers who join a waitlist; a wider launch date has not been announced.
Gemini already offers more than 50 connected apps, including services from Adobe, Peloton, and others. Google plans to bring these integrations to Search over the coming weeks. Calm is also set to join both Gemini and Search.
As AI assistants become a new way to access digital services, broader app integrations could reshape how people find and use them. Google's platform may help establish a more connected, assistant-led web.
