Snap has settled a lawsuit brought by two teenagers who alleged that the platform's design encouraged compulsive use and contributed to mental health and eating-related difficulties. The settlement resolves the case; its terms were not disclosed.
The teenagers said they began using social media at a young age and connected their habits to features such as autoplay and endless scrolling. They had previously reached settlements with Meta, TikTok and YouTube.
Snap said it has introduced safety measures and tutorials, works with experts, and intends to continue strengthening the safety, privacy and wellbeing of its community. The case was among a broader set of legal actions examining social media design and its effects on young users.
As platforms evolve, sustained attention to safety features and young users' digital habits may help shape a more thoughtful online environment.
