OpenAI Could Be Ready for an IPO in 2027, Says Greg Brockman

OpenAI president and co-founder Greg Brockman says the company could be ready to go public in 2027, pointing to its expanding enterprise business as a key sign of progress.

Brockman said OpenAI's enterprise momentum strengthened over the course of 2026. After a difficult first half, the company recorded 70% growth in annualized revenue in the third quarter. He attributed the rise to its enterprise business doubling, following investments made over time.

Enterprise customers now generate most of OpenAI's revenue, up from about 30% previously, Brockman said. He noted that consumer revenue is also growing, while the business segment has expanded more rapidly. A recent partnership with J.P. Morgan Chase was cited as an example of the larger organizations the company is now serving.

Brockman also described how OpenAI's position in the enterprise market has changed. A year earlier, some prospective clients questioned whether the company was committed to business customers. He said OpenAI has since focused on building trust, identifying meaningful goals for clients, and establishing itself as a reliable long-term partner.

On agentic coding, Brockman said OpenAI's Codex product had initially drawn little attention, but the company continued developing it. He did not present a specific IPO date, describing 2027 as a point by which OpenAI could be ready to list.

If enterprise adoption continues to grow, OpenAI's path toward a public offering could reflect a broader shift in how AI companies build lasting relationships with businesses.
