OpenAI Tests a Unified ChatGPT Workspace

Chat and Work are set to come together

OpenAI is preparing to combine Chat and Work in the ChatGPT desktop app, bringing conversations and task-oriented tools into one interface. The company says the updated experience will first reach a select group of users for feedback before a wider rollout.

With the change, users will be able to move from exploring an idea to asking ChatGPT to carry it out in the same workspace. They can provide files and plugins, then request tasks such as building a website or creating a presentation while reviewing and guiding the process. Codex will remain a separate experience in the desktop app.

OpenAI also says ChatGPT and Codex will draw from a shared token allowance. The change is not expected to affect most users, though some may encounter more frequent waits for their allowance to reset, depending on how they use the products and which models they choose.

A single workspace could make it easier to move between planning and execution, shaping how people use AI tools for everyday projects.
