British AI cloud company Nscale is moving deeper into the AI infrastructure market by acquiring software startup Anyscale in a deal valued at $1.65 billion. The move strengthens Nscale's ambition to offer a more complete stack for AI customers, from computing power to workload management.
Anyscale was founded by the team behind Ray, the open-source distributed computing framework developed at Berkeley. The company initially focused on helping organizations run compute-heavy projects, then shifted toward tools for training and serving large language models, data curation, inference, reinforcement learning, and orchestration.
By bringing Anyscale into its portfolio, Nscale adds a software layer that complements its growing infrastructure business, which already spans energy, data centers, and orchestration services. The companies say the combination could help align software and infrastructure more closely, creating a more integrated environment for AI development.
Nscale has been rapidly scaling its operations after raising $2 billion in a Series C round earlier this year, supported by investors including Nvidia, Nokia, Blue Owl, Dell, and Aker. The company has also expanded through partnerships with major technology and telecom players, reinforcing its position in the AI compute ecosystem.
Anyscale said its latest quarter delivered 70% revenue growth compared with the previous quarter. The startup will continue under its own brand, while its roughly 200 employees join Nscale. The deal points to a future where AI platforms may increasingly be built as unified systems, connecting hardware, software, and orchestration in one flow.
