On Monday, Google announced the expansion of its Gemini feature in Chrome to seven additional countries, including Australia, Indonesia, Japan, the Philippines, Singapore, South Korea, and Vietnam. This rollout will be available for both desktop and iOS platforms, with the exception of Japan.
Since last year, Google has been enhancing the integration of AI and Gemini within Chrome through a floating window interface. This year, the tech giant introduced a sidebar assistant designed to help users efficiently answer questions across multiple tabs. This assistant leverages the Personal Intelligence feature of Gemini, allowing users to connect with services such as Gmail and Google Photos for tailored responses.
Additionally, users can schedule meetings via Google Calendar, check locations using Google Maps, and even draft and send emails directly through Gmail within this Chrome feature. The sidebar also offers a tool for transforming images found on the web, utilizing the Nano Banana 2.
Initially launched in January for users in the United States, Gemini in Chrome was subsequently made available in India, Canada, and New Zealand in March. With this recent expansion, users in more regions can now access the innovative features of Gemini.
However, it's important to note that the agentic feature, which allows the browser to autonomously complete tasks, is still under testing and is currently available only to subscribers of AI Pro and AI Ultra plans in the U.S.
