Google Enhances NotebookLM with New Features for Research and Output Generation

Google has unveiled an exciting update to its NotebookLM research tool, introducing enhanced functionalities and transitioning to the Gemini 3.5 model as the default. This update also incorporates Antigravity-powered capabilities, designed to streamline research processes and diversify output formats.

The latest features enable users to initiate a project discussion within the app, which will assist in constructing a knowledge base by recommending various sources through its research capabilities and Google Search. This enhancement allows users to access primary sources in multiple languages and discover new materials from related authors, significantly broadening the scope of research.

Previously, users were required to provide their own sources to establish a knowledge base for extracting insights. Now, the tool's functionality has evolved, allowing for a more user-friendly experience.

NotebookLM now permits users to input detailed instructions for generating outputs in various formats, which can be edited after creation. Supported exports include data visualizations and charts (.png, .svg), documents (PDFs, .docx, Markdown, text files), and structured data formats (.csv, .json), alongside Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint files.

In addition, Google introduced a "Deep Research" mode last year, aimed at facilitating structured online research. With this latest rollout, NotebookLM will also provide users with a transparent view of the steps it took to arrive at specific answers, enhancing the reliability of the output.

This update is currently available to Google AI Ultra users and all Workspace business customers with AI Ultra Access and AI Expanded Access, with plans to extend it to a broader audience in the near future.
