Apple is gearing up to introduce its inaugural smart glasses, with a potential launch slated for 2027 and an unveiling possibly occurring later this year, as reported by Bloomberg's Mark Gurman.
Gurman, a reliable source on Apple's advancements, has shared that the tech giant is currently experimenting with four different designs, any of which could be part of the final product lineup.
The proposed designs feature a variety of styles: one with a large rectangular frame, another that is a slimmer rectangular option reminiscent of those worn by CEO Tim Cook, as well as larger and smaller oval or circular frames. Additionally, Apple is contemplating a range of colors, including black, ocean blue, and light brown.
While these glasses mark a shift from Apple's previous ambitions for a broader array of mixed and augmented reality devices--plans that faced challenges due to delays and the lukewarm reception of the Vision Pro--this new development suggests a more focused approach.
Unlike some earlier concepts, these glasses are designed to be more user-friendly and accessible, resembling Meta's Ray-Ban glasses. They will not feature displays but will enable users to capture photos and videos, answer calls, listen to music, and interact with an upgraded version of Siri.
As Apple continues to refine its vision for wearable technology, these smart glasses could pave the way for a new era of personal devices that seamlessly blend functionality with style.
