Authorities in İzmir have recovered a marble sculpture head depicting Zeus, believed to date back about 2,000 years to the Roman period. It was found in the city's Konak district during an operation involving the İzmir Chief Public Prosecutor's Office and provincial police units.
The sculpture's precise age and archaeological origins have not yet been established. Zeus, a central figure in Greek mythology, was associated with the Roman god Jupiter, and his worship was widespread across ancient Anatolia.
Further research may help clarify the artifact's history, adding to understanding of the region's classical-era cultural heritage.
