In response to the incident, Waymo stated, "During a period of intense rain yesterday in Atlanta, an unoccupied Waymo vehicle encountered a flooded road and stopped."
Despite implementing a software update aimed at preventing the vehicles from entering high-risk flooded areas, Waymo acknowledged that it has not yet finalized a comprehensive solution. The update included restrictions for certain times and locations prone to flooding, as indicated by documents from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).
