Funding fuels an AI companion for everyday life
AI companion startup Tolan has secured $30 million in new funding, bringing its total investment to $60 million. Union Square Ventures, Khosla Ventures and Homebrew participated in the round.
Tolan's app pairs users with a cartoon-style character designed to help them organize daily tasks, work toward goals and navigate relationships and emotions. The company says it now has more than 250,000 active users, who held over 70 million conversations with the app in the past year.
The startup also reports annual recurring revenue in the double-digit millions. Its paid membership tiers provide access to the app's full range of features.
The new funding gives Tolan additional resources to develop its product and reach more users. As AI companions evolve, their ability to combine practical assistance with approachable conversation may shape how people use AI in everyday routines.
