Tinder Expands IRL Events as Gen Z Looks for More Real-World Connections

Tinder is broadening its in-person events strategy as younger users increasingly look for ways to connect beyond the screen. Match Group said the feature, first tested in Los Angeles, will reach dozens of new cities by September and continue scaling worldwide through 2026.

During its second-quarter earnings call, the company said Tinder's user trends remain under pressure, but its events push is gaining traction. Match CEO Spencer Rascoff noted that monthly active users fell 7% in the quarter, an improvement from the previous 8% decline, while daily activity is expected to turn positive again soon.

The Events tab, now live in several U.S. and European cities, highlights curated local gatherings such as bowling nights, pottery classes, speakeasy meetups and music-driven social events. According to Match, the feature has already seen strong engagement among 18- to 24-year-old users in Los Angeles.

Match says the rollout is built on a low-cost partnership model with event providers, allowing Tinder to surface experiences without directly organizing them. The company believes this approach can make the app feel more social, less pressured and more aligned with how Gen Z prefers to meet people.

With plans to expand to 26 cities globally by the end of September and 75 cities by the end of 2026, Tinder is betting that offline experiences can refresh its identity and strengthen user interest. If the trend continues, the line between digital platforms and real-life social discovery may become even more fluid in the years ahead.
