Snapchat is expanding beyond messaging with a new feature set called Snapchat Plans, designed to help friends create, share, and manage real-world events in one place. The update brings invitations, scheduling details, location info, and attendee tracking into a single flow.
The company says the tools can support a wide range of gatherings, from birthday parties and sports events to study groups and casual weekend meetups. By bringing planning into the app, Snapchat is aiming to make coordination feel faster and more natural for younger users.
To create a plan, users can add a title, choose a date and time, and invite up to 200 friends. Invitations are sent through one-on-one chats, while guests can respond with Going, Maybe, or Can't Go. Hosts can also review attendance, add more people, and adjust event details when needed.
A new My Plans section on profiles will organize current, upcoming, and past events, while shared events will also appear when viewing a friend's profile. Guests can see the guest list, update their RSVP, and receive a reminder one hour before the event begins.
With this move, Snapchat is tapping into a broader shift toward more intentional in-person socializing, especially among Gen Z users who increasingly prefer dedicated tools for organizing meetups. The update positions Snapchat as more than a communication app, turning it into a practical layer for everyday social life. In the future, this kind of integrated planning could reshape how digital platforms support offline connection.
