Sunset Park's Open Studios brought more than 300 creative spaces into focus, highlighting affordable workspaces, neighborhood collaboration and Brooklyn's evolving arts community.

Sunset Park Keeps Affordable Studio Space Within Artists' Reach

Sunset Park's creative community opened its doors during the three-day Sunset Park Open Studios festival, welcoming visitors to more than 300 artist and design spaces across the Brooklyn neighborhood.

At Industry City, painter Lizzy Plapinger presented geometric works in her new studio, which she moved into two months ago. Recently arriving from Bushwick, she described the area as welcoming and well suited to meeting fellow artists and designers.

Sunset Park's converted factories, warehouses and walk-up buildings have helped establish it as a hub for creative work, with studio options still available for under $600. The festival offered a close-up look at the range of practices and spaces shaping the local arts scene.

By connecting affordable workspaces with opportunities to meet and collaborate, Sunset Park's model could help sustain a more accessible and connected future for urban art communities.
