Meta's AI assistant Muse has surpassed 10 million downloads in the United States during its first 40 days, placing it among a small group of apps to reach that scale so quickly. Sensor Tower estimates Muse recorded 10.9 million downloads worldwide, including 10.2 million in the U.S.
Only 11 other apps have achieved the same 40-day U.S. download milestone. Meta's Threads was the latest, in 2023; most of the other apps were mobile games.
Downloads and engagement rise
Muse is available in the U.S. and Canada, and its growth has coincided with promotion across Meta's apps and increased advertising. Sensor Tower data indicates that Muse accounted for 39% of Meta's advertising spend in October, compared with 23% the previous month.
The app's daily active users reached 2.5 million on October 16, up 15% week over week. Its U.S. retention rates were also higher than the reported averages for ChatGPT, Claude and Grok: 30% of Muse users returned after seven days and 23% after 14 days.
In their first 40 days in the U.S., ChatGPT recorded 3.7 million downloads, while Grok and Claude saw 500,000 and 200,000, respectively. ChatGPT's global total was higher than Muse's, in part because it launched in more markets.
Muse's early performance shows how distribution, advertising and continued user engagement can shape the launch of AI services. Its longer-term influence will depend on whether it can sustain that activity as the market expands.
