Brooklyn's Open Studios welcomed visitors into creative spaces across Gowanus, Red Hook and Sunset Park, showcasing artists' work, neighborhood stories and a public art commission in Brownsville.

Brooklyn Open Studios Spotlight the Borough's Creative Pulse

Across Brooklyn, Open Studios offered visitors a chance to step inside working spaces and encounter the artists shaping the borough's cultural life. In Gowanus, the event marked its 30th year, bringing attention to a neighborhood whose character is changing alongside its waterfront.

Landscape painter Elizabeth O'Reilly draws inspiration from Gowanus, turning its evolving surroundings into a record of place. In Red Hook, artists continued to welcome visitors into their creative community, while Sunset Park's studios demonstrated how converted industrial spaces can support a lively arts scene.

The program also highlighted public art beyond the studio setting. In Brownsville, local artist and educator Jazmine Hayes created a Percent for Art commission for the new Multi-Service Center, weaving historical, spiritual and environmental themes into a work rooted in the community.

Together, these open studios connected audiences with the people, practices and stories behind Brooklyn's art. By making creative spaces visible and accessible, such events can help keep local culture part of the borough's future.
