Spotify Introduces New Audiobook Charts

Spotify is enhancing its platform by launching Audiobook Charts for users in the U.S. and U.K. This initiative, announced recently, mirrors the company's existing Music and Podcast Charts, providing weekly updates on the most popular audiobooks across various genres. The rankings are determined by user listening habits and engagement, ensuring that the charts reflect current trends.

Accessible to both free and premium subscribers, the Audiobook Charts can be found within the audiobooks hub. Users can navigate to this section by tapping the search button in the app and selecting the "Audiobooks" tile. Once there, they can scroll down to the "Dive deeper" section to explore the latest rankings.

This launch represents Spotify's ongoing commitment to the audiobook market, following its formal introduction of the format in 2022. Since then, the company has actively expanded its audiobook offerings, introducing innovative features like the "Page Match" tool, which allows users to scan a page from a physical book and seamlessly transition to that point in the audiobook. Additionally, the "Audiobook Recaps" feature provides concise audio summaries to help listeners catch up on their reading.

Spotify believes that the new Audiobook Charts will serve as a valuable resource for both listeners and authors. By facilitating the discovery of trending titles, the charts aim to enhance the visibility of authors and the publishing industry, connecting them with broader audiences.

Duncan Bruce, Spotify's Director of Audiobook Partnerships and Licensing, stated, "Our experience with Music and Podcasts Charts shows that when content is more accessible and enjoyable, demand increases. We are excited to extend this model to audiobooks, offering more opportunities for users, publishers, and authors to engage with what's popular on Spotify and integrate literature into contemporary culture."

In a broader strategy, Spotify is not limiting its interest to audiobooks alone; the company has also announced plans to enter the physical book market. Users in the U.S. and U.K. will soon have the option to purchase physical copies of books directly through the app, thanks to a partnership with Bookshop.org.
