Spotify has introduced Playlist Notes, a new feature that lets users add context to the songs, podcast episodes, and audiobooks they include in playlists. The update expands on the platform's recent User Notes tool, which brought personal commentary to individual tracks.
With Playlist Notes, listeners can attach short explanations to items in playlists they own or collaborate on. A note might capture a memory, explain why a track matters, or simply share why a pick deserves attention. Anyone who can view the playlist will be able to read the note.
The feature is also arriving on Spotify's editorial playlists, where the company's music team can now explain the thinking behind selected tracks. Early examples include Today's Top Hits, RapCaviar, Hot Country, All New Pop, and Fresh Finds Hip-Hop.
To make that curation more transparent, Spotify is adding Editor Profiles as well. These profiles highlight an editor's favorite tracks and albums, along with the playlists they help shape, giving listeners a clearer view of the people behind the recommendations.
User notes are rolling out on iOS and Android in more than 100 markets. Editor notes and profiles are launching for free and premium users aged 16 and older in the U.S., Canada, the U.K., Ireland, Australia, and New Zealand.
The update reflects Spotify's broader move toward a more social, expressive listening experience, where playlists can carry both sound and story. In the future, features like this may redefine how audiences connect with music discovery.
