Spotify is introducing a new layer of transparency for AI-created artists by adding AI Persona labels to profiles that represent synthetic identities rather than real people. The badges will begin appearing in mid-September across profile banners, About sections, search results, and track rows in playlists.
The company says it will review artist pages using set audience thresholds, starting with profiles that reach wider listener numbers first. In addition to self-disclosure through Spotify for Artists, the platform will also assess names, visuals, and profile details to identify photorealistic AI-generated identities.
Once a profile is labeled, Spotify will keep that music out of its editorial and algorithmic recommendations by default. The only exception is when a user actively follows an AI Persona, which signals a clear preference to hear more from that artist.
Spotify describes the badge as a marker for the artist's public identity, not a judgment on how the music itself was produced. The platform says music creation details will remain available through features such as AI Credits and SongDNA, while artists will also have a path to appeal if a label is applied incorrectly.
The move extends Spotify's broader AI policy, which already includes labeling AI-generated music and blocking unauthorized voice clones and deepfakes. It also comes as the company continues to expand AI-powered listening tools, including prompted playlists and AI-assisted discovery features.
Starting August 11, 2026, artists will be able to self-identify as AI Personas through Spotify for Artists, while the labels themselves are set to roll out next month. The update points toward a streaming future where transparency and discovery evolve together.
