Re:Build, the Massachusetts-based manufacturing company that launched electric-vehicle startup Slate Auto as a separate business, has raised $2.1 billion. The company says it will use the new capital to expand production capacity and help launch industrial startups.
The funding round was led by General Catalyst and JPMorganChase's Strategic Investment Group. Re:Build works with industrial businesses to develop and manufacture products, while also building companies in markets it considers underserved.
Founded in 2020, Re:Build says its network includes more than 2,100 U.S. employees and over 2.4 million square feet of manufacturing space. It spun out Slate Auto in 2023 to give the electric-pickup startup the opportunity to raise capital independently. Slate Auto has since secured at least $1.4 billion to develop a customizable, low-cost pickup.
By expanding its manufacturing network and supporting new ventures, Re:Build aims to help more innovative products move from development to large-scale production. The investment could strengthen the industrial platforms needed to bring future hardware ideas to market.
