India-based gaming startup Matiks has raised $10 million in pre-Series A funding to grow its math, logic, memory and puzzle games and expand into new markets. The round was led by General Catalyst, with Ronnie Screwvala and existing investors Info Edge Ventures, Tanglin Venture Partners and Untitled Ventures also participating. Matiks has raised more than $13.5 million to date.
The company reports that its daily user base grew from 22,000 earlier in the year to over 300,000 by September. It also recorded 2.2 million monthly active users that month. Founded by college friends Sudhanshu Bhatia, Mohan Kumar and Sushant Timmapur, Matiks offers short games that users can practise against bots or play competitively against other people. Challenges and quests add points, streaks and unlockable games.
Building games and reaching new markets
Matiks has begun testing a subscription that includes game analysis, practice and additional features. Most players are currently in India, while the company has also seen users in the United States, South Korea and Japan. It plans to localize its offering to support growth in South Korea and Japan.
The startup is also experimenting with Jelo, a platform where users can create games for others to play. Matiks plans to use the new funding to scale its products and expand into more markets. If it continues to make skill-based play accessible and engaging, the platform could help bring brain games to a wider global audience.
