Microsoft has disclosed Azure's quarterly revenue in dollars for the first time, reporting $33.2 billion for the July-September quarter. That was a 48% increase compared with the same period a year earlier.
The figure places Azure slightly ahead of Google Cloud, which Alphabet reported generated $30.7 billion during the quarter. Google Cloud's year-over-year growth was faster, while Azure's revenue exceeded Microsoft's earlier growth forecast.
Azure provides businesses with cloud computing services to run applications and develop and operate AI models. It accounted for about 36% of Microsoft's $92.3 billion in quarterly revenue. Microsoft's newly organized Agents and Infra segment, which includes Azure and Microsoft 365's cloud business, recorded $76.8 billion in revenue, up 25% year over year.
Publishing Azure's revenue in dollars gives investors a clearer basis for comparing major cloud providers. As cloud computing and AI workloads expand, greater transparency may help businesses and markets assess how the sector is evolving.
