Kid Cudi is developing JEAN, a biographical film about artist Jean-Michel Basquiat. Cudi will write and direct the project, as well as portray Basquiat.
The musician and filmmaker says the idea has been encouraged for years, but he decided to create the project himself. He describes the film as a tribute to Basquiat, 1980s New York and the artist's enduring influence on his own career.
Production is planned to begin in 2027. The film will be Cudi's third directing project, following his work on Doe and Wrong Number.
By bringing his personal connection to Basquiat to the screen, Cudi's film may offer audiences a fresh perspective on the artist's legacy and inspire new interest in his work.
