MAC Cosmetics Launches a Limited-Edition Makeup Collection Inspired by Jean-Michel Basquiat

MAC Cosmetics has teamed up with Jean-Michel Basquiat's family and estate for a limited-edition beauty collection shaped by the artist's bold visual language. The launch reflects Basquiat's signature mix of color, symbolism, and street-art energy in a format designed for everyday use.

Available direct to consumers and in select MAC stores, the six-piece line includes loose powder pigments in shimmering gold, taupe, and white, along with a four-piece set of Basquiat Artist Brushes inspired by the tools he used in his own practice. Prices range from $29 to $120.

MAC's global creative director Nicola Formichetti described the project as a tribute to Basquiat's habit of transforming ordinary objects into expressive statements. The collection's centerpiece is the Macximal Silky Matte Basquiat Lipstick, featuring a crown detail on the cap and shades named Ruby Woo-ster and Bowery Brown, a nod to New York and the artist's color palette.

Other items in the release include an Eye + Face Chalk, an Oil Effect Eye Paint, and a branded bag designed to carry the products. The launch also arrives as MAC continues expanding its cultural collaborations and broadening its retail reach.

By translating Basquiat's artistic identity into beauty products, the collection shows how art and design can keep crossing into new creative spaces, shaping the future of brand storytelling.
