Hinge founder Justin McLeod has secured $18 million in funding for his new venture, Overtone, a dating service built around AI, voice and audio. The round includes support from Match Group, FirstMark Capital and Pace Capital.
McLeod left his CEO role at Hinge last year and is now shaping a different approach to modern matchmaking. Overtone says it will focus on highly curated introductions rather than endless swiping, profile browsing or fast-paced feeds.
According to the company, the platform is designed to learn about each person in a more natural way, using their own voice and story to identify promising matches. It aims to explain why a connection is suggested, bringing more clarity to the matching process.
The idea arrives as many users look for more meaningful digital experiences. Overtone joins a growing wave of AI-assisted dating products that try to improve compatibility instead of expanding choice without direction. Relationship expert Esther Perel has also joined the board, alongside Spencer Rascoff and Diana Chapman.
Overtone is expected to launch later this year in selected locations, pointing to a future where AI may help make personal connections more thoughtful, focused and human-centered.
