Hauser & Wirth is set to deepen its California presence with a new gallery opening in downtown Palo Alto on October 3. The launch marks the gallery's first permanent home in Silicon Valley and its sixth location in the United States.
The debut exhibition, "Calder | O'Keeffe," is organized with the Calder Foundation and supported by research from the Georgia O'Keeffe Museum. It will explore the artistic dialogue and long-running friendship between Alexander Calder and Georgia O'Keeffe, pairing artworks with archival materials that highlight their shared creative vision.
Founded in Zurich in 1992, Hauser & Wirth has grown into a global gallery network with spaces across North America, Europe, and Asia. The Palo Alto venue will be led by senior director Beatrice Shen and will occupy a restored historic post office building at 201-225 Hamilton Avenue.
Beyond exhibitions, the 2,600-square-foot space will include a Hauser & Wirth Bookshop designed as a community hub for talks, educational programs, and publishing events. Architect Luis Laplace is overseeing the renovation, continuing the gallery's approach of reimagining heritage buildings for contemporary cultural use.
With its arrival in Palo Alto, Hauser & Wirth is positioning art closer to one of the world's most innovation-driven regions, a move that could shape how galleries connect culture, community, and the future of creative exchange.
