Harbinger Unveils Compact Electric and Hybrid Work Truck

Harbinger, an innovative electric vehicle startup based in Los Angeles, has introduced its latest creation: the HC Series Cab, a compact medium-duty work truck designed for versatility and efficiency.

This new vehicle will be offered in both all-electric and hybrid variants, with the hybrid model boasting an impressive range of up to 500 miles. The HC Series Cab is engineered for ease of access, featuring a tight turning radius and the flexibility to customize the chassis for various applications, such as integrating cargo boxes or flatbeds. However, the company has yet to disclose pricing details.

John Harris, co-founder and CEO of Harbinger, emphasized the need for fleets to balance payload capacity, maneuverability, and range. "We engineered this platform to outperform traditional diesel options while leveraging electrification and our range-extended hybrid system to facilitate effective work on-site," he stated.

Founded in 2022, Harbinger has quickly gained momentum, securing $100 million in a Series B funding round in January 2025, followed by a $160 million Series C round in November. The company has attracted significant clients, including FedEx and RV manufacturer THOR Industries, with its larger truck chassis that can operate either fully electric or as a hybrid.

In addition to its truck offerings, Harbinger has diversified its portfolio by launching energy storage solutions and has partnered with Airstream as its inaugural customer. Earlier this year, the company also acquired Phantom AI, a firm specializing in autonomous vehicle software.

Despite challenges faced by many electric vehicle startups, Harris remains committed to a focused approach, ensuring that Harbinger only commits to initiatives they are confident in. "The more we diversify revenue sources, the more resilient we become in the face of market volatility," he noted.

While the U.S. electric passenger vehicle market is navigating various challenges, Harris believes that electric and hybrid solutions are particularly advantageous for commercial trucking due to their lower total cost of ownership and reduced maintenance needs. Although Harbinger's specific revenue figures for 2025 remain undisclosed, Harris indicated that their sales have significantly outpaced the broader electric truck market.

With a vertically integrated structure, Harbinger is poised to explore new business avenues. Harris elaborated on their strategy, stating, "We have developed our own in-house suppliers for critical components like batteries, motors, and axles, enabling us to streamline production and enhance efficiency."
