Grok Bot Usage Limits Draw Attention as Musk Cites High Service Costs

Elon Musk says Grok Bot's service costs have outpaced revenue after users reported unexpectedly exhausted weekly limits; future quota changes remain unclear.

Grok Bot Usage Limits Draw Attention as Musk Cites High Service Costs

Costs put focus on Grok Bot's weekly quotas

Some Grok Bot users reported that their weekly usage allowance had reached its limit despite little or no use. Elon Musk said on November 1 that the change was not a technical glitch, explaining that the cost of providing the service had become unsustainable relative to its revenue.

Musk has not clarified how users' quotas may change in the future. The issue comes as SpaceX describes its AI business as a growing contributor: the company has said AI accounts for 52% of its income, while its "Super Intelligence" division reported a profit of $431 million. SpaceX also cited $1.2 billion in one-time costs related to its acquisition of Cursor.

As demand for AI services grows, balancing access with the cost of running them may shape how providers set usage limits and build sustainable products.
