Google has taken over an unfinished data center campus in southeastern Wyoming from Crusoe, which had been developing the project with infrastructure company Tallgrass. Google says it plans to invest $17 billion in the site; the purchase price was not disclosed.
The campus was initially designed to grow to as much as 10 gigawatts of power capacity. Under the new arrangement, Google will lead its development, adding to the computing infrastructure needed for cloud services and artificial intelligence.
Crusoe continues to work with Google on a separate data center project near Amarillo, Texas. The company also develops and operates facilities that provide data center space, GPU rentals and computing capacity for AI workloads.
As demand for AI computing grows, the Wyoming project illustrates how large-scale data center plans can evolve through partnerships and changes in development leadership. Its progress may help shape how future digital infrastructure is built and powered.
