Figma Adds Tools to Guide AI Agents and Connect Design with Code

Design systems become a guide for AI

Figma has introduced new features aimed at helping teams and AI agents create work that follows a company's design standards. Announced at its first Config event in India, the updates include Figma Specs, a Markdown-based editor for documenting a brand's design language.

Specs can be saved as a standalone file or placed alongside a Figma canvas. Teams can use them to bring together design guidance and references to canvas elements, FigJam diagrams and code layers, giving people and agents a shared source of context.

Figma is also opening its code layers feature in public beta. It adds code to designs to support interactive prototypes, and users can ask an agent to turn designs into code or revise code as they iterate.

The company is integrating Payload, the headless content management system it acquired last year, with Figma Make. The connection is intended to help users create dynamic websites and manage their content. Figma also said its MCP supports more than 20 tools, including Open Code, Dia, Grok Bot and Sarvam.

By connecting brand guidance, prototypes and content workflows, Figma is working to make AI-assisted creation more consistent. This approach could help teams move from early design ideas to interactive digital products with clearer coordination.
