DoorDash has introduced a limited beta of dd-cli, a command-line tool that lets developers place orders through an AI agent. The new interface can search stores, surface deals, and complete checkout without opening the main app.
The beta is currently available through a waitlist for macOS developers in the United States and Canada. DoorDash co-founder and CTO Andy Fang described the launch as an early step toward more flexible, agent-driven commerce.
At its core, the project shows how everyday services can be embedded into developer workflows. Instead of treating food ordering as a standalone app experience, DoorDash is turning it into a modular capability that other tools and assistants can connect to.
The company has already explored similar directions through messaging-based ordering, its Ask DoorDash chatbot, and integrations with AI platforms. The CLI release extends that strategy by giving developers another way to build custom experiences around meals, groceries, and local offers.
Beyond the novelty, the move reflects a broader shift in digital commerce: interfaces are becoming less about taps and more about intent. If this model expands, ordering services could blend more naturally into the software people use every day, shaping a more seamless future for AI-powered convenience.
