A broader platform for local shopping
DoorDash has agreed to acquire Instacart in a transaction valued at $17 billion. The deal combines DoorDash's restaurant delivery network with Instacart's grocery technology and retailer relationships. Instacart shareholders are set to receive $65 per share, and both companies' boards have approved the agreement.
Instacart's brand, app and business technology products are expected to remain in place. Until the transaction closes, the companies will continue operating separately. They say the combined capabilities could help grocery retailers expand online ordering and advertising, while using DoorDash's delivery network to fulfill more orders.
The companies expect the deal to close toward the end of 2027 or during the first half of 2028. If completed, the combination could give local retailers more options for reaching customers and managing digital orders, as delivery becomes an increasingly integrated part of shopping.
