Uber has agreed to acquire Delivery Hero in a deal valued at $14.8 billion, a move that could significantly widen its presence across nearly 100 markets in Europe, the Middle East, Latin America and Asia.
Alongside the main transaction, Delivery Hero has arranged the sale of its operations in 14 markets where Uber Eats already operates, with those assets set to go to SSW Partners for $1.6 billion.
The acquisition is structured as an all-stock offer and still needs to clear key conditions, including regulatory review and a minimum acceptance level of 50% plus one share of Delivery Hero's outstanding capital. Uber, already the company's largest shareholder, is also backed by Prosus, which has agreed to sell its 17% stake.
If completed, the deal would nearly double Uber's delivery footprint and strengthen its position in the global competition with DoorDash and Just Eat. Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi said the combined platform would expand mobility and delivery services in more markets and create long-term value for customers and shareholders.
This move points to a future where digital platforms become even more integrated, global, and central to everyday urban life.
