DoorDash Introduces AI Tools to Enhance Merchant Onboarding and Visual Appeal

DoorDash has unveiled a suite of innovative AI-driven tools designed to streamline the onboarding process for merchants, enhance dish photography, and facilitate website creation based on existing app listings. These advancements aim to empower food businesses to present themselves more effectively on the platform.

The new onboarding feature allows merchants to easily import data from their websites, including images, operating hours, and menu items. This automated process mirrors a similar initiative launched by Amazon in 2024, enabling merchants to review and refine the information before their listings go live.

Additionally, DoorDash has revamped its video library, enabling merchants to tag specific dishes in videos for direct ordering by customers. This feature also provides insights into video performance, including metrics such as total views and sales generated through video content.

To further enhance visual marketing, DoorDash has introduced several photo editing tools. The AI Retouch feature allows for background replacement, image sharpening, and lighting optimization, ensuring that the dish remains unchanged while improving its presentation. Meanwhile, AI Replate helps create a professional look for dish images by adjusting lighting and color, with the option for merchants to provide a reference image for style consistency.

Brian Tolkin, DoorDash's head of merchant product, emphasized the company's commitment to supporting merchants from their initial onboarding to fulfilling orders. He stated, "These new tools reflect our belief that the right technology should remove friction, not add it, allowing merchants to focus on what they do best: creating exceptional food and delivering outstanding customer experiences."

The enhancements extend to DoorDash's commerce platform, which now includes a feature that enables restaurant owners to quickly develop a website using existing content from DoorDash, such as menu items and images. In initial trials, merchants utilizing this feature achieved an impressive average order conversion rate of nearly 10%.

Furthermore, a new marketing campaign builder has been introduced, allowing merchants to automate the creation of content, manage email outreach, and schedule promotions seamlessly.

These advancements signify a pivotal shift in how food businesses can leverage technology to enhance their visibility and sales, paving the way for a more dynamic and engaging dining experience in the digital era.
