Software validation company Blacksmith has raised $66 million in a Series C round led by Sequoia, reaching a valuation of $1 billion. The platform helps businesses build and test software, including code generated with AI.
Blacksmith says demand for continuous integration--the automated process of building, testing and validating code changes--is growing as AI tools accelerate software production. The company was founded to make that process more efficient and dependable.
Rapid growth in automated code checks
The company reports that its annual recurring revenue has increased 17-fold and that its platform has handled more than 90 million automated code checks, known as CI jobs. Its customers include Mercury and Granola.
The new round follows a $45 million Series B that valued Blacksmith at $550 million. The company was valued at $60 million after its $10 million Series A a year earlier, and says it has raised $125 million in total.
As AI-generated code becomes more widespread, tools that can verify software quickly and consistently may become an increasingly important part of development workflows.
