Northern Thai flavors meet a Georgetown favorite
In a Georgetown alley in Washington, D.C., Alfie's combines northern Thai cooking traditions with ingredients sourced from the surrounding region. Chefs and co-owners Justin Ahn and Alex McCoy have brought the restaurant from its pop-up beginnings to a permanent home.
One of the menu's limited-run dishes is a steak frites served in just five portions each night. The kitchen sears a 26-ounce rib-eye to order and finishes a peppercorn sauce with massaman curry flavors and beef fat, alongside classic fries.
Other dishes showcase the kitchen's hands-on approach, including green papaya salad tossed with tomatoes, peanuts, and a tangy tamarind-and-palm-syrup dressing. A northern Thai pork belly curry balances its rich flavors with pickled garlic and pineapple, while sticky rice and fresh herbs complete the meal.
Alfie's brings regional Thai techniques into a distinctly local dining experience. Its blend of tradition and place reflects how independent restaurants can make global food cultures part of a city's evolving culinary future.
