AI assistants may be gaining attention, but few customers are using them to book rides or order meals through Uber. During its third-quarter earnings call, Uber said AI agents booked just four rides in the week of Halloween.
Uber Chief Financial Officer Balaji Krishnamurthy said the company processed about 320 million rides and orders across Uber and Uber Eats that week. AI agents placed 500 orders through Uber Eats, a small share of the total.
CEO Dara Khosrowshahi described agent-driven transactions as being at a very early stage. He said Uber hopes usage will grow and sees AI assistants as a potential way to bring more demand to its platform.
For now, booking directly through the app may be just as convenient: Uber says arranging a ride takes an average of 50 seconds, while reordering a favorite meal takes about 90 seconds. The early figures suggest that AI agents have yet to offer a clear time-saving advantage for many routine transactions.
As more AI assistants enter the market, their ability to make everyday tasks simpler could determine whether agent-led services become a lasting part of digital commerce.
