The New York Times Company is reportedly in exclusive negotiations to acquire Letterboxd for $330 million. The potential deal has not been announced as final.
Letterboxd, a social platform for film fans to log and discuss movies, has expanded from 3 million users in January 2021 to 28 million by April 2026. More than half of its users are under 35. The platform is free to use, with paid subscriptions offering additional features.
Letterboxd's projected earnings for 2026 are estimated at $15 million. The reported offer would value the company at substantially more than that annual figure.
If completed, the acquisition could bring a large film-focused community into a major digital publishing portfolio, shaping new ways for audiences to discover and discuss cinema.
