Spotify may ask members of its Family or Duo plans to confirm that they live at the same address as the plan manager. Verification may be requested when someone joins, when the manager changes address, or when Spotify cannot confirm the household details.
How QR verification works
Some members may be asked to scan a QR code. The plan manager can open it through Profile > Your Premium > Manage, and the member scans it using a phone camera. Spotify's instructions require both people to be in the same location, and the code refreshes every few seconds.
If Spotify sends a verification request by email or QR code, members should complete it within seven days. Otherwise, they may lose access to the shared plan and move to a free account. Spotify says they can rejoin the same Family or Duo plan, but may have to wait a year before joining a different shared plan.
As streaming services refine household-based subscriptions, straightforward verification processes may become an increasingly routine part of managing shared accounts.
