Snap Unveils Specs, Its New AR Glasses, With a Premium Price Tag

Snap has introduced Specs, its long-anticipated consumer AR glasses, at a spatial AI event in Long Beach. The device arrives with a premium price of $2,195, placing it firmly in the high-end tech segment.

Preorders open on June 16 with a $200 refundable deposit, and shipments are planned for fall in the United States, the United Kingdom, and France. While the price sits above many competing smart glasses, Snap is positioning Specs as a fully self-contained wearable built for immersive computing.

The glasses run on two Snapdragon processors and offer up to four hours of battery life, extended to 20 hours with the charging case. Visually, they resemble a conventional pair of glasses, though with a slightly bulkier frame to house the onboard computing system without a tether or external puck.

Specs supports shared multiplayer experiences through EyeConnect, letting two users trigger interactions by making eye contact. It also enables video playback, POV recording, web browsing, email access, and productivity apps. A key highlight is contextual AI, which can identify objects in view and surface relevant information in real time.

Snap says the glasses include privacy-focused features such as a recording indicator light and user controls for stored, synced, or deleted data. The device comes in two sizes, weighing 132 grams and 136 grams, making it lighter than mixed-reality headsets while still more substantial than lightweight smart glasses.

With Specs, Snap is stepping deeper into the next wave of wearable computing, where AI, design, and everyday utility are converging. If adoption follows, smart glasses could move from novelty to a more natural part of daily digital life.
