Robots Achieve New Milestone at Beijing Half-Marathon

The Beijing half-marathon for robots saw a new record, with an autonomous robot finishing in 50:26, showcasing remarkable advancements in robotic technology and performance.

Robots Achieve New Milestone at Beijing Half-Marathon

The recent Beijing half-marathon for humanoid robots witnessed a remarkable achievement, with the winning robot completing the race in just 50 minutes and 26 seconds. This impressive time surpasses the previous human world record of 57 minutes, set by Jacob Kiplimo.

While it may seem like a stretch to compare human and robot running performances, the advancement in robotic capabilities is undeniable. Last year, the fastest robot finished the race in a much slower time of two hours and 40 minutes, highlighting the significant progress made in just one year.

This year's champion was developed by the Chinese smartphone manufacturer Honor. Interestingly, although a different Honor robot clocked an even faster time of 48 minutes and 19 seconds, it was operated remotely. The autonomous robot that won was recognized for its achievement through a weighted scoring system.

According to Beijing's E-Town tech hub, around 40% of the competing robots were autonomous, while the remaining 60% relied on remote control. Not all robots performed flawlessly; some encountered challenges, including one that fell at the starting line and another that collided with a barrier.

This event not only showcases the technological advancements in robotics but also opens up exciting possibilities for future competitions and applications of autonomous technology in various fields.
