Porsche is set to introduce an all-electric version of its Cayenne coupe in late summer, reinforcing the brand's commitment to the growing electric vehicle (EV) market.
The Cayenne coupe EV features a four-door design, distinguishing it from traditional coupes. This new model will join a lineup that includes the Cayenne Electric, Cayenne S Electric, and Cayenne Turbo Electric, showcasing Porsche's enthusiasm for diverse vehicle options.
Historically, the coupe variant of the gas-powered Cayenne has been a sales success, capturing 20% of total Cayenne sales within its first year of launch in 2019. Today, it represents a remarkable 40% of sales, with some markets reporting figures as high as 90% for the coupe model.
Despite its premium price point, the all-electric Cayenne coupe is expected to attract significant interest. Unlike the Macan compact SUV, which will transition to an all-electric model, the Cayenne coupe EV will be available alongside its gasoline and hybrid counterparts well into the next decade, providing valuable insights into consumer preferences.
Upon its release, the Cayenne Coupe Electric will offer three distinct variants: the base model, an S coupe, and a turbo coupe, all showcasing Porsche's dedication to performance and luxury. The starting price is set at $113,800, excluding a delivery fee. The S coupe is priced at $131,200, while the turbo variant reaches $168,000, with options available for further customization.
Each coupe EV variant boasts impressive specifications, including an 800-volt powertrain, air suspension, and a sleek aerodynamic design reminiscent of the iconic Porsche 911. All models will feature the North American Charging Standard port, enhancing charging convenience.
The base model delivers up to 435 horsepower and 615 pound-feet of torque, achieving a top speed of 143 mph and accelerating from 0 to 60 mph in just 4.5 seconds. For those seeking even more power, the turbo version offers a staggering 1,139 horsepower and 1,106 pound-feet of torque, rivaling top electric performance cars with a remarkable 0 to 60 mph time of just 2.4 seconds.
While Porsche has yet to announce official EPA range estimates, early tests suggest it aligns with the existing Cayenne electric variants, which offer around 360 miles on a single charge. However, opting for larger tires may reduce this range by approximately 10% due to increased rolling resistance.
As Porsche ventures further into the EV market with the Cayenne coupe, it not only embraces a sustainable future but also sets the stage for a new era of luxury electric vehicles, potentially reshaping consumer expectations in the automotive industry.
