Phillips Has Nearly Reached $2 Million in Sales from Lisa Schiff's Art Holdings

Phillips has generated $1.9 million from the sale of artworks linked to Lisa Schiff's collection, with more lots still to come. The auction house has already sold 231 pieces, a result that sits close to the original estimate set for the holdings.

The sales are part of a bankruptcy process that began after trustees appointed Phillips to handle works from Schiff's contemporary art collection and the remaining inventory of her former business, Schiff Fine Art. The combined presale estimate for the material was about $2 million.

Recent results included a 2022 painting by Corydon Cowansage that sold for $7,095 and a 1987 Richard Prince print mounted on a T-shirt, which brought in $51,600. Earlier highlights also included Joel Meslier's Untitled (Bananas), which reached $69,850 in Phillips' "New Now" sale.

Beyond paintings and prints, the offerings have extended to design and jewelry, reflecting the breadth of Schiff's holdings. A Campana Brothers chair sold for $38,100, while several Hemmerle rings also found buyers at strong prices.

Phillips says the program will continue, with more works by Richard Prince, Chris Ofili, and Raymond Pettibon scheduled for mid-July. The next round is estimated to total between $145,000 and $205,000, keeping attention on how the market values this collection over time.

As auction houses continue to reshape private holdings into public sales, the process may further influence how contemporary art is priced, circulated, and reassessed in the years ahead.
