Netflix has introduced a new account rule that requires each profile in a household to be linked to a unique email address. The change is designed to simplify sign-in and account recovery, while also helping the platform refine personalized recommendations.
For many viewers, the update will be easy to manage. Netflix says users can still switch between profiles on the same account without logging out, and kids' profiles are not included because they cannot sign in directly. For households with multiple members, adding separate emails to each profile is a straightforward way to stay organized.
Some users who maintain several personal profiles for different viewing preferences may need more than one email address. In that case, email alias tools can help. Services such as Gmail support plus addressing, while other providers like Proton, Apple, and Outlook also offer alias options under a primary account.
How the new setup works
Netflix users may see an on-screen prompt asking them to add profile contact details. The same setting can also be reached through the account area on a web browser by opening Account, then Profiles, selecting a profile, and choosing Contact Info.
The company's broader sharing model still allows Standard and Premium subscribers to add extra members for an additional fee, depending on the plan. Temporary verification codes can also be used to authorize access on devices outside the home, as long as those devices connect to the home network periodically.
As streaming platforms continue to refine identity and personalization tools, this shift points toward a more structured and data-driven viewing experience in the future.
