Mobile LED Truck Highlights Art World Connections During Frieze Week in Los Angeles

As Frieze Week unfolds in Los Angeles, artist Tod Lippy is making a bold statement with a mobile LED truck showcasing emails and visuals related to art world figures and their connections to controversial personalities. This initiative, titled All Of the Gang, aims to spark conversations about accountability in the art community.

Lippy's project stems from his concerns regarding the leniency faced by prominent art figures who maintained ties with individuals like Jeffrey Epstein, even after his criminal activities became public knowledge. For instance, billionaire collector Leon Black continues to serve on the board of the Museum of Modern Art in New York. While some have resigned from their positions, Lippy feels that the repercussions have not been sufficient.

The mobile truck will debut at Santa Monica Airport, where attendees of Frieze Los Angeles will gather. Lippy has designed the display to capture the attention of those in the art community, hoping to provoke thought and discussion. The truck will later traverse through various art hubs, including West Hollywood and Beverly Hills, ensuring it reaches a diverse audience.

In preparation for this project, Lippy meticulously searched for influential art figures and their connections to Epstein. He expressed particular concern over the associations of artist Andres Serrano and museum director David A. Ross, highlighting the troubling nature of their ties. Lippy is determined to keep these discussions alive, stating, "I just don't want all this to disappear. Hopefully, it will compel people to do their own searches."

Though relatively new to the art scene, Lippy gained recognition for his previous work, My Fellow Americans, which featured portraits of Trump supporters. His unique approach to art serves as a platform for deeper societal discussions, blending emotional resonance with political commentary.

Through this initiative, Lippy aims to challenge the status quo within the art world, encouraging a broader dialogue about ethical responsibility and the need for transparency. By utilizing innovative methods like a mobile display, he hopes to engage audiences in meaningful conversations about the past and future of art.
