The Philadelphia Museum of Art is undergoing significant leadership changes, with two senior staff members resigning as part of an ongoing organizational review aimed at improving sustainability.

Leadership Changes at Philadelphia Museum of Art Amid Ongoing Reorganization

The Philadelphia Museum of Art is currently navigating a significant transition, marked by the impending departures of two senior staff members. Chief of Staff Maggie Fairs and CFO Valerie McDuffie are both set to resign, with Fairs expected to conclude her role by the end of February and McDuffie leaving this Friday.

Fairs was appointed by former director and CEO Sasha Suda, who was let go in November for reasons that remain unspecified. Following her dismissal, Suda initiated a lawsuit against the museum, alleging wrongful termination, which a Pennsylvania judge has recently mandated to enter arbitration.

During her brief tenure, Suda implemented a rebranding initiative that saw the museum adopt the name "Philadelphia Art Museum," a move that received mixed reactions. Some board members expressed concerns that they were not adequately informed about the rebranding plans prior to their execution.

In January, the marketing director responsible for the rebranding also resigned, leading to the museum's decision to revert to its original name. Daniel H. Weiss, who succeeded Suda, has acknowledged the financial challenges facing the institution, emphasizing the need for a comprehensive organizational review to establish a more sustainable model.

A museum spokesperson confirmed that this review is ongoing and hinted at the possibility of further changes in the future.
