Google's cloud business is surging on enterprise AI demand, while Gemini usage grows and Alphabet's heavy infrastructure spending shows strong momentum.

Google's AI investments gain momentum as cloud demand surges

Alphabet's latest results suggest that its AI strategy is increasingly supported by real business momentum. Google Cloud posted a sharp rise in revenue, climbing 82% year over year to $24.8 billion, well above market expectations and ahead of the previous quarter's growth pace.

The company said the expansion was powered by enterprise AI adoption and stronger demand for AI infrastructure. Google also reported that its cloud backlog reached $514 billion, signaling a deep pipeline of future work that has yet to be recognized as revenue.

Overall, Alphabet delivered $119.8 billion in revenue for the quarter, up 24% from a year earlier, while Google Services revenue rose 15% to $94.5 billion. Profit also increased significantly to $112.1 billion, reflecting the scale of the company's current performance.

CEO Sundar Pichai said the company's AI investments are reshaping operations across the business and pointed to strong momentum across multiple areas. One of the clearest signs of that momentum is Gemini, Google's AI chatbot, which now has 950 million monthly active users, up from 750 million in the previous reporting period.

Alphabet continues to invest heavily in data centers, chips, and broader infrastructure, with capital expenditures projected between $180 billion and $190 billion for the year. Pichai said the company sees healthy demand signals and long-term contracts as reasons for confidence in that spending.

With cloud growth, AI adoption, and infrastructure scale moving in the same direction, Google appears to be building a stronger foundation for the next phase of digital services. This trend may help define how AI-powered platforms evolve in the years ahead.
