Google has introduced a public SynthID website that enables users to check whether an image, video or audio file was created with supported AI tools. The platform expands access to a verification capability previously tested with media professionals and researchers.
One tool for images, video and audio
The service accepts a broad range of common formats, including JPG, PNG and GIF images; MP4, MOV and WEBM videos; and audio files such as MP3, WAV and FLAC. Users can submit compatible media to see whether it contains a SynthID watermark.
Introduced by Google in 2023, SynthID embeds an imperceptible identifier into content produced by participating AI systems. Google's creative and generative products, including Gemini, Veo, Lyria, Flow, ProducerAI and Vids, apply this watermarking technology to eligible AI-generated outputs.
Building a more transparent AI ecosystem
Google has also integrated verification features into the Gemini app and Google Chrome. The company says the system is already handling around one million verification requests per day, reflecting growing public interest in understanding how digital content is made.
SynthID is supported by a widening group of technology companies, helping establish practical methods for identifying AI-created media across creative workflows. The initiative gives creators, educators and everyday users a clearer way to distinguish content carrying trusted generation signals.
As watermarking standards become more widely adopted, tools such as SynthID could help shape a future where AI creativity and digital transparency develop side by side.
