Google Meet is expanding one of its most practical AI tools beyond video calls. The "Take Notes for me" feature, powered by Gemini, can now capture and summarize conversations during in-person meetings as well.
Instead of splitting attention between the discussion and handwritten notes, users can open Google Meet on their device and let the system transcribe the conversation in real time. When the meeting ends, the notes are automatically organized into a Google Doc, making it easier to review key points and action items.
How the feature works
To use it, participants open Google Meet on the web or in the app and select the note-taking option rather than starting a call. The tool can be paused and stopped at any time, and it also supports a smooth transition into a video meeting if someone joins remotely.
Google says the feature is now rolling out more broadly for AI Pro and AI Ultra subscribers, along with eligible Workspace plans. Availability is arriving in stages across platforms, beginning with Android, followed by web and then iOS.
For users who want similar capabilities outside Google Meet, built-in transcription tools and dedicated services remain useful alternatives. The wider adoption of AI note-taking points to a future where meetings become more fluid, searchable, and connected across every setting.
